Questions of Life – Who Am I?

The content explores the concept of personal identity, emphasizing the impact of self-awareness and external influences. It references historical figures and biblical anecdotes to underline the significance of recognizing one’s authentic self. The message encourages seeking guidance from a higher power to discover and embrace true identity, akin to a creator shaping a purposeful design.

Cats are pets. Lions are wild animals. Tables are inanimate objects. “Who am I?” delves into the depths of personal identity, transcending mere labels. It’s the question that echoes in the recesses of our souls, especially when others attempt to define us.

Identity crises reverberate throughout history, often leading to turmoil and tragedy. Consider Adolf Hitler, who, had he recognised his inherent divinity and the universal brotherhood of humanity, might not have perpetrated unspeakable atrocities.

Perhaps your struggles stem from a lack of self-awareness. Maybe your poverty and discontent arise from ignorance of your true essence. Could it be that your dissatisfaction with your work stems from a disconnect with your authentic self?

Reflecting on Jesus’ query to His disciples—”Who do men say I am?”—reveals four avenues to uncovering personal identity: the perceptions of strangers, the perspectives of loved ones, self-perception, and divine insight. While society, family, and self may offer interpretations, true identity is ultimately bestowed by a higher power.

Just as a carpenter imbues a table with purpose and design, so too does our Creator shape our identity. If you find yourself adrift in a sea of uncertainty, kneel in humility and seek guidance from the One who fashioned you. Discover, embrace, and celebrate your true identity.
