Each one of us has limiting beliefs from childhood that influence what we are able to do. Whether we believe we can or cannot do something is shaped by the belief system we hold on to.
For example, consider a man who believes that women should be dominated. He will do nothing to empower his wife or daughters, ultimately harming their futures. Similarly, a man from Africa who believes that people from advanced nations are inherently superior may struggle to compete on a global scale, even in business.
A powerful illustration of this is the story of the young elephant tied with a rope. Even when it grows strong enough to break free, it remains tied because it believes it cannot escape.

Here’s how to overcome limiting beliefs:
- Understand that beliefs are internal but have external impacts on our lives.
- Assess the impacts of your limiting beliefs.
- Take steps to steadily break your limiting beliefs.
- Install new positive beliefs in your life.
- Celebrate your progress.
- Evaluate how far you have come in life.
If we fail to identify and break our limiting beliefs, we will not progress far in life. Our lives will be like the elephant tied to the tree, unable to overcome our circumstances.
Follow these six tips and you are sure to experience progress in life.
