When Les Brown, the American motivational speaker and author, was growing up in a poor neighbourhood, he heard many times from those around him that he would never amount to anything. In essence, the individuals you need in your life are determined by your destination. If your aspiration is to become an author, spending time with an engineer who has never written an article would not be conducive to your goals. I’ve come to realise that the most valuable allies on this journey often reside at a distance. These are the individuals whose wisdom is found within the pages of books and other portable mediums. While it may be challenging, it’s imperative to surround yourself with supporters of your dreams rather than detractors. After all, it’s your dream!
