Success is the progressive cultivation of good habits. Despite the numerous challenges, despair, and failures many face in Ghana, some individuals have defied the odds to achieve remarkable success. This article explores three practical and learnable habits that successful Ghanaians have in common.
1. They Are Thinkers

Thinking is more important than doing. Successful Ghanaians prioritize deep and strategic thinking over mere activity. I have had the privilege of working closely with leading consultants Albert and Comfort Ocran during their major motivational conferences. What stands out about them is their ability to think ahead of the competition.
Their Springboard Road Show conferences, which began in a single region, eventually expanded to all 10 regions of Ghana. Today, they are held online, reaching millions. This success is rooted in their innovative thinking. To cultivate this habit, set aside at least 30 minutes each day for focused thinking. This practice can lead to groundbreaking ideas and solutions.
2. They Seize Opportunities

Successful Ghanaians have a knack for identifying and seizing opportunities. When Uncle Ebo Whyte noticed the decline of the theater industry, he felt compelled to revive it. Despite the skepticism of many, he saw an opportunity to showcase Ghanaian creativity in a modern way. He turned everyday life issues into engaging plays that combine entertainment and education. His formula, Talent + Opportunity in Ghana = Success in Ghana, underscores the importance of being opportunistic.
3. They Are Solution Oriented

Successful Ghanaians approach problems with a solution-oriented mindset. When many lamented the declining standards of tertiary education, Patrick Awuah, who was then working at Microsoft, envisioned Ashesi University. This institution has since become a beacon of educational excellence.
The philosophy of successful Ghanaians is that behind every problem lies a solution, behind every failure is success, and every closed door has a key. They are driven by a need to provide solutions and go beyond their call of duty to impact millions of lives positively.
Success doesn’t just happen. It is not determined by where you come from or your past, but by the habits you cultivate. By adopting the habits of thinking strategically, seeking opportunities, and being solution-oriented, you too can achieve success.
