Secrets of Achievers: Gabriel Ogbechie (CEO of Rainoil Nigeria)

Achievers have a different mindset and follow key secrets: dissatisfaction with current status, pursuing ideas, resilience, selling effectively, and growing what they start. Success requires hard work and seizing opportunities.

Introduction

Achievers think differently from non-achievers. By adopting the mindset of great achievers, you can set yourself on the path to success.

In a short video I watched about five times today, I discovered the key secrets of great achievers. During his presentation at Platform Africa in Nigeria, Gabriel Ogbechie, founder of Rainoil Group, a billionaire and philanthropist, revealed five secrets to achieving great success in life:

1. They are not satisfied with their current status.

Gabriel was earning N30,000 per month and was not satisfied. He asked himself a simple question that led to his next level. In life, we can either remain where we are or strive to reach the next level. It all starts with asking frank personal questions to determine your current status. As Dr. Myles Munroe used to say, our potential lies ahead of us. There is more we can achieve if we become restless and ask meaningful questions. Never become satisfied with where you are. This is the first secret of great achievers.

2. They pursue their ideas.

When Gabriel discovered he could sell oil to make an extra N30,000, he began the process of establishing a company with his own savings. After realising dissatisfaction, it must be followed by strategic actions. Desire alone will not get us anywhere. It must be backed by action. When I realised I could impact my generation through blogging, I took steps like setting up and managing the blog daily. The second secret to great achievement is to take massive action.

3. They don’t give up when facing challenges.

Gabriel needed N300,000 to start his company but faced numerous disappointments. Despite these frustrations, he never gave up. When his first IPO was delayed, he pursued it persistently until he succeeded. To become an achiever, you must develop resilience to overcome challenges. Disappointments, setbacks, and failures are all part of the journey. Achievers use these experiences as stepping stones. You can never achieve anything worthwhile if you give up at the first sign of trouble. Keep going, no matter what. This is the third secret of great achievers.

4. They sell their way up.

Gabriel’s first sale exceeded his N30,000 target. He identified a company and made his pitch to supply oil, even though they had existing suppliers. Selling can help you enter competitive markets. It requires courage and boldness to sell your idea or product. Learning to sell is essential if you want to be a great achiever in any field.

5. They grow what they start.

Rainoil is a multinational company today because Gabriel did not rest on his laurels. From its humble beginnings, it has grown into a giant. Fruitfulness is not enough; we must strive to multiply what we start. The desire to start is one thing, but the appetite to grow is another. This is the fifth secret of great achievers.

Conclusion

Great achievements do not come to those who merely wish for them. Success is attracted to those who position themselves to seize opportunities and work hard to achieve their goals. Start with a desire for more and follow through with hard work. Apply these five tips, and you will achieve great success in any field.
