Nana Ama McBrown’s journey into the world of acting is a compelling story of resilience, faith, and divine intervention. In an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starr FM in Accra, she revealed that her path to stardom was filled with challenges, yet guided by faith.

McBrown began her story by recounting a particularly difficult period in her life. “I was deported and frustrated,” she shared. “I cried every day.” During this time of despair, she found solace in listening to the radio. “One day, I tuned into Fox FM and heard our late brother, Kwame Owusu Ansah, giving an interview,” she said. It was during this broadcast that Uswansa mentioned Miracle Films and provided contact information for those interested in acting.

This moment became a pivotal turning point for McBrown. “I went there, and I don’t know how, but God always, in my difficult times, opened doors for me,” she explained. With a sense of purpose, she headed to the Miracle Films office, which was then located in Adum, Kumasi. “God works in my life,” she reflected. “Just when there’s an obstacle and I don’t know what to do, a new direction appears.”

At Miracle Films, McBrown was greeted by a bustling scene filled with aspiring actors. She was informed by two individuals that she needed to register to join. “I was like, put my name there, but I don’t have money,” she recalled. Undeterred by her lack of funds, McBrown was determined to pursue this opportunity. “He said, ‘No, you have to if you want to be part.’ So I said, ‘I’m going to bring money, but please, put my name down.'”

As she was leaving the office, she encountered Morris and two other significant figures, Mr. Aboagye and Joe, who were pivotal in her journey. “They asked, ‘Who are you looking for?’ I told them, ‘I want to act, but they said I should go and get money,'” she recounted. Recognizing her determination, they decided to give her a chance. “Right there, one of them handed me a script,” McBrown said. “He said, ‘This is the script, go and learn.'”

Eager to prove herself, McBrown took the script home and studied diligently. She attended an audition at the Cultural Centre, but it didn’t go as smoothly as she had hoped. “I thought I was going to read the script when I came for the audition,” she explained, but instead, she found herself observing others. Despite this, her persistence shone through.

When the production team required help, McBrown eagerly volunteered for various roles, including costume work. “I stood up and said, ‘Sir, I’m new here. I don’t know much about costumes, but if you teach me, I’ll do it,'” she boldly stated. Her willingness to learn and adapt quickly endeared her to the crew, leading to more opportunities.

Her big break came unexpectedly when the production team’s car broke down. “After three days on set, their car broke down. I’ve been driving since I was 16,” she said with a smile. Her readiness to assist in any capacity earned her respect and paved the way for her acting career.

Reflecting on her journey, McBrown acknowledged the power of faith and perseverance. “I am a child of faith and a child of God,” she affirmed. “That’s how I’ve come this far.” Nana Ama McBrown’s story is a powerful testament to the belief that with faith, resilience, and determination, obstacles can indeed become stepping stones to success.
