Dr. Myles Munroe’s journey into writing and publishing is a compelling story of overcoming self-doubt and recognizing the power of sharing ideas. Initially, Dr. Munroe was hesitant to write, believing that his thoughts weren’t valuable enough to be shared.

He recounted, “I remember the first time someone asked me to write my ideas. I fought it. And the guy was a publisher, and he tried to convince me. I said, ‘Are you crazy? No one wants to read what I have to say. Plus, I don’t know how to write. I don’t know how to start. I don’t know anything about this. Plus, only smart people write books.'”

The turning point came during a conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where a publisher approached him after hearing him speak. The publisher insisted that Dr. Munroe’s ideas could “change millions of lives,” but Munroe still resisted.

That night, Dr. Munroe had a profound spiritual experience. He described it as “a restless Holy Ghost night” where he felt convicted about the importance of sharing his knowledge. He recalled the revelation: “If you died today, everything you know would go to the cemetery. He says, ‘You will be a generational thief.'”

This experience convinced Dr. Munroe to start writing. He agreed to work with the publisher, who asked for cassette tapes of his teachings. The publisher transcribed these tapes and sent back a manuscript for Dr. Munroe to edit and revise. This process led to the publication of his first book in 1990.

To establish credibility for his first book, the publisher suggested getting an endorsement from a well-known figure. Despite his initial doubts, Dr. Munroe approached Oral Roberts, who enthusiastically agreed to write the foreword. This endorsement significantly boosted the book’s visibility and sales. Dr. Munroe recalled, “I’m thinking, you know, I’m going to sell maybe 200 books. We sold half a million.”

This success launched Dr. Munroe’s writing career. He went on to author over 67 books, which have been translated into 62 languages. His works have reached global audiences, with his books being read in places he had never visited. As he put it, “God said, see, to the ends of the earth, a book will take your ideas.”

Dr. Munroe’s story illustrates how overcoming self-doubt and recognizing the value of one’s unique perspectives can lead to a successful writing and publishing career with far-reaching impact.
