Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, is a prominent Ghanaian entrepreneur who rose from humble beginnings to become the founder and CEO of the McDan Group of Companies. 

His life story is one of determination, resilience, and business acumen.

Timeline:

1971: Born on June 17 in Labadi, Accra, Ghana

1980s: 

  • Grew up in a large family with 10 children, being the 8th born
  • Started working from age 12 to support himself and family
  • Sold kerosene, clothes, and other items on the streets of Labadi
  • Worked various jobs including as a houseboy, cleaner, and laborer

1990s:

  • Dropped out of St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School in Form 2 
  • Attended Social Advance Institute to complete O-Levels
  • Worked as a messenger at a shipping company at the port
  • Gained experience in the freight forwarding industry

1999: Founded McDan Shipping Company in November

2000s:

  • Grew McDan Shipping into a successful logistics company
  • Made his first million dollars at age 28
  • Lost all his money at age 32 but rebuilt the business

2010s:

  • Expanded McDan Group into other sectors like real estate and mining
  • Won numerous business awards and recognition
  • Obtained EMBA from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration

2017: Named CIMG Marketing Man of the Year

2022: Opened Ghana’s first private jet terminal at Kotoka International Airport

2024: Celebrating 50th birthday and launching autobiography “The Path of an Eagle”
