On Thursday, 27th September 2024, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, officially launched the highly anticipated Ghana Gold Coin, a new initiative aimed at bolstering the country’s financial sector and providing a unique investment opportunity for Ghanaians.
The launch, held at the Bank of Ghana, marked a significant milestone in the country’s economic landscape.
Dr. Addison, in his speech, highlighted that the Ghana Gold Coin is designed to serve as both a store of value and a hedge against inflation, emphasising its unique role in Ghana’s evolving financial ecosystem. “The Ghana Gold Coin represents a strategic shift in how we think about wealth preservation in this country,” he said.
He underscored that with global inflation gradually slowing down and Ghana’s economy showing steady recovery, the timing of the coin’s release is crucial for encouraging long-term savings.
He also provided a comprehensive overview of recent economic developments, noting that the Bank of Ghana had decided to cut the interest rate from 29% to 27%.
“This decision is intended to stimulate economic activity while maintaining control over inflation,” Dr. Addison explained, adding that the reduction was necessary to foster credit growth and enhance the private sector’s role in driving economic recovery.
Dr. Addison concluded by encouraging Ghanaians to take advantage of the Ghana Gold Coin as a means of safeguarding their wealth and contributing to the nation’s economic progress.
He remarked, “This initiative represents a new chapter in our economic story, where we combine tradition and innovation to secure a brighter future for all.” The launch promises to strengthen the country’s gold reserves and create new pathways for financial growth.
The Ghana Gold Coin is set to be out in October 2024.
