The founder of Pizzaman–Chickenman, Christian Boakye, has shared the unbelievable and emotional story behind how he secured the investment that transformed his campus-room pizza hustle into one of Ghana’s fastest-growing food brands. He revealed the journey during an interview on the Masterminds Podcast hosted by Richie Mensah.
At the time, Chris and his partner were broke, frustrated, and drifting from place to place in search of hope. “During all those hassle days, we ended up in Tema… We didn’t even know how many days we were going to spend there,” he recalled. That’s when destiny stepped in. A neighbour’s radio played an advert asking entrepreneurs seeking investors to call a number. “I heard the ad and immediately called… and that’s how we found Quick Angels,” he said.
But even getting to pitch was a battle. “We didn’t have a laptop… I had to borrow one from my niece,” Chris admitted. They waited from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. to be called. Their samples had used up their last money—failure wasn’t an option.
When they finally entered the boardroom, he sensed a breakthrough. “I smelled the pizza in the hallway… I told my partner, they’ve eaten it—they will invest,” he said laughing. The investors ended up believing in them even more than they believed in themselves. “We mentioned an amount… and they said it was too small,” Chris shared.
The deal was sealed that night. Their joy was so overwhelming that, “We walked from Circle to Labone. We didn’t even think of taking a car.”
That moment sparked a journey that has grown into over 90 branches nationwide.
