ACCRA, Ghana — General Manager of Citi FM and Channel One TV, Bernard Koku Avle, has challenged graduates of Academic City University to pursue purpose over profit, results over rewards, and integrity over convenience as they step into the next phase of their lives.
Speaking at the university’s 2026 Graduation Ceremony, Bernard Avle drew lessons from his personal broadcasting journey, the growth of Citi FM, football leadership principles, and Academic City’s culture of excellence, innovation, and integrity.
Reflecting on Citi FM’s early years, Mr. Avle recounted how the station chose to trust young university graduates instead of established media personalities. He said the bold decision demonstrated the power of investing in talent and potential. “We entered the market with young broadcasters and challenged the status quo. Twenty-two years later, that approach has been vindicated resoundingly,” he stated.

Addressing the graduating class, Mr. Avle urged them not to be driven solely by financial rewards. “Do not follow the money. There’s something much deeper for you to follow. Put results ahead of rewards. Work to learn before you work to earn,” he advised.
He further encouraged graduates to become solution-driven leaders capable of tackling Africa’s pressing challenges through innovation, ethical leadership, and excellence. “Follow your passion so you will find purpose. Follow our problems; they often lead to solutions,” he said.
Concluding his address, Mr. Avle called on graduates to become lights in their communities, nations, and continent by applying their knowledge to create meaningful and lasting impact.
