Young entrepreneur Kingsley Opoku Simpeh has ignited debate after boldly declaring that office employment is not the ultimate path to financial freedom for many young Africans. Speaking on the Masterminds Podcast, Kingsley stated, “Office job is not the key. You need to build something for yourself.”
During the interview with Richie Mensah, Kingsley argued that society has conditioned students from primary school through university to prepare mainly for employment rather than entrepreneurship. He claimed many graduates celebrate becoming “employee of the month” without realizing they are primarily helping companies maximize profits for shareholders.
The businessman explained that his journey into wholesale and retail distribution started after repeated job rejections. Instead of waiting endlessly for opportunities, he entered Ghana’s FMCG industry and gradually built a customer network supplying toiletries and detergents across different towns.
Kingsley also challenged the perception that trading and distribution jobs are for uneducated people. “Why would I be in the university and come to the market and sell? We should take that thing out of our minds,” he said.
He further emphasized that many supposedly “small” businesses generate substantial profits because they solve daily human needs consistently.
